How to choose an electric bike
Pick the series first, then compare motor power, battery capacity and tires. For city streets and the beach, a commuter or retro e-bike is usually enough; for sand, trails and hills, look at fat tire, mountain or dirt bike models.
1. Start with how you will ride
Our e-bikes are grouped in seven series so you can compare like with like:
- Retro Series: Moped-style looks with real power and long range: vintage lines built for everyday riding and longer trips.
- Fat Tire Series: Wide fat tires that soak up bumps and handle sand, snow and rough trails.
- Commuter Series: Lightweight commuters for daily short trips and errands around town.
- Folding Series: Folds small to store at home or fit in a car trunk: ride and drive in the same trip.
- Mountain Series: Mountain frames with suspension and climbing power for hills and rough trails.
- Dirt Bike Series: High-torque off-road machines with strong suspension for bumps, climbs and cross-country.
- Trike Series: Three stable wheels and a big cargo space to carry more with more balance.
2. Motor power (watts)
More watts mean more torque for hills and heavy loads. Each page lists the motor power the manufacturer gives for the model.
3. Battery capacity (Ah and volts)
Battery energy in watt-hours is volts multiplied by amp-hours (Ah). A higher number generally means more range per charge. Real range changes with rider weight, assist level, terrain and wind, so treat any range figure as a guide.
4. Tires and suspension
Wide fat tires and suspension soften bumps and grip sand and gravel; narrower tires roll more easily on pavement. Folding models trade some size for easy storage in a car or apartment.
